Recent work

• Acted for a third party in a highly complex case involving the interaction of property and trust law in an ancillary relief context. The client was joined into divorce proceedings as a result of a claim for a property interest in the substantial matrimonial home owned by the client. There were four claims brought under property and trust law. John persuaded the court to dismiss two of the claims at an early stage and went on to successfully defend the remainder of the claim resulting in a favourable outcome for the client
• Instructed by an international business client who had been denied contact to the parties’ children by the other parent living in Northern Europe. The other parent was openly hostile throughout the case disobeying all court orders. John issued proceedings simultaneously in the High Court in London and in Europe on an emergency basis to remove the children from the other parent’s care and control. After prolonged assistance from the police John succeeded in returning the children to the client and the children are now settled well with the client in the UK
• Instructed by a couple in respect of an international surrogacy arrangement where one of the intended parents had a foreign domicile and they both resided abroad. John advised the clients on the three competing jurisdictions which each had their own laws relating to surrogacy which the clients had to comply with
